Community Theatre

The Olympic Torch is passing through Burscough on 1st June in the morning. Our Community Drama Group is putting on an outdoor performance at The Wharf and rehearsals are under way as you read this.
We are being joined by actors from In Another Place theatre company based in Crosby who take their name from the Antony Gormley statues on Crosby beach.

We have invited Burscough Village Primary School to work with us singing, dancing and acting. The show also includes an appearance of "The Beatles" but looking larger than life! A gospel choir will also be adding to the event and it promises to be a good day.

The storyline is about the development of Liverpool from the early monks crossing the river Mersey in the 1100's, the slave trade, the blitz, The Beatles and football. It also explores Liverpool's Irish and other international links narrated by two Liverpudlians over their washing lines.

If you want to be part of the Olympic Torch performance at the Wharf then you will need to join soon so you can rehearse.
We have places available if you want to join our Community Drama Group and we have work planned until 2013.

Drama Workshops

We encourage individuals to test out and develop their acting skills and knowledge. These are great confidence boosters and allow each person to work at their own pace.

We use mime, role play, acting techniques, voice control, warm ups and relaxation to look at issues important to the group. For example, going for a job interview and encourage the group to develop ideas of what might need to be considered.

Therapeutic Drama, Art and Music

We use a combination of drama, art, music, visualisations and sensory equipment to enable participants to focus on self-awareness and expression

All our workshops are very accessible and designed to meet a range of needs and are especially suitable for those people with more complex needs.

We encourage participation and allow the person to work at there own pace. The sessions are relaxed and thoughtful and are run using therapeutic values, where everbody's contribution is valued and a safe place created to explore thoughts and feelings.

Evening Activities

We offer a range of leisure activities on Wednesday evenings at Burscough Wharf.

Zumba & Creative Dance

Zumba is Zumba is Zumba! Get fit in a fun way.

Followed by Creative Dance using music and movement to produce contemporary performances that encourages the creativity of the performers and is accessible to all who take part.

We have a Music & Music Appreciation Evening where we listen to a wide range of music and say what we do and don't like about it. People are encouraged to bring in their own choice of music and describe what it means to them. We also have a percussion section where we play drums and percussion instruments; we have music quizzes, and karaoke... In short anything musical goes. If you play an instrument please bring it along. All welcome.

Boccia and Kurling sessions.

Ever wanted to try Curling but couldn't get to an Olympic sized ice stadium? Well, we offer an indoor version called Kurling where the Kurling stones are on wheels and you don't need to wear your hat and coat to avoid frostbite.

We also play an indoor bowling game similar to Crown Green Bowling called Boccia. This is great for team building, being in total control of your play, developing leadership skills by being Captain and developing hand to eye co-ordination and motor skills.

Oh, and it's great fun too!
